The Château de Cognac overlooking the Charente River was first a 10th-century fortress intended to stop Norman invasions, then in the 15th century a lordly residence where one of the most illustrious kings of France, Francis I, was born.
Baron Otard, who founded his Cognac House in 1795, quickly understood how the thickness of the walls offered exceptional and unique conditions for aging his eaux-de-vie.
The magnificent and unique Hall of States, in pure Renaissance style, was built at the request of King Francis I to host his most illustrious guests. Vast and luminous, with a view of the Charente River, this hall remains today the ideal setting for the most prestigious receptions, cocktail parties, gala dinners, dances, concerts, conferences, seminars, and more. Rental prices for the reception rooms: 1 - Hall of States and Guards : €3,100 excluding VAT. 2 - Council and Francis I Halls : €1,500 excluding VAT.

Cognac Castle
Cognac This 9th-century fortress is the birthplace of Francis I. Seized as national property during the French Revolution, the Château de Cognac was sold in 1796 to Baron Otard, mayor of Cognac and deputy for the Charente department.
Baron Otard acquired the monument for its vaulted cellars, built against the rock and the old city walls, and for its walls, over 3 meters thick, which provide ideal aging conditions for Cognac. Today, Cognac aged at the château still bears the Baron's name, and the former fortress has been largely repurposed for the production of this precious spirit.
