Nuits-sur-Armançon Castle

Located on the Dukes of Burgundy route, the Château de Nuits-sur-Armançon is a remarkable Renaissance-style building, listed as a Historical Monument. Built around 1560 by François de Chenu, this château boasts a graceful façade with pilasters and a large grey slate roof, making it a fine example of the architecture of the period.

The castle has a tumultuous history, particularly during the Wars of Religion, when the Chenu family, devout Catholics loyal to the king, faced violent clashes. This turbulent past is reflected in the façade overlooking the Armançon River, which exudes a certain majesty. The moats that surround the castle today bear witness to this era.

In the 17th century, the castle was acquired by the Clugny family, then, after the Revolution, it became the property of the Marquise de Laguiche, who made some improvements, including the removal of a fortified outer courtyard.

During the tour, you will discover vaulted rooms on the lower level, including the kitchens and an exceptional interior well . A magnificent stone staircase leads to the main floor, where you can admire several fireplaces in various styles, including one dating from the Renaissance. One of the bedrooms features Venetian Revival furnishings , while another is distinguished by its harmonious octagonal layout and rare star-patterned floor .

The outbuildings , used as stables and kennels , along with a stone-paved granary , add to the charm of this château. The dovecote , currently being restored, is one of the most prized features of the park, which covers approximately six hectares .

An unmissable visit for history and architecture enthusiasts, allowing you to discover a castle rich in history and exceptional heritage features.
