Károlyi Kastély
Located 80 km southwest of Budapest, near the royal city of Székesfehérvár, in a 50-hectare English-style park, Károlyi Castle was built between 1844 and 1850 by Count George Károlyi (1802-1877) in the Neoclassical style, based on plans by the Austrian architect Heinrich Koch. It served as the summer residence of the Counts Károlyi. Following its nationalization in 1947, the Károlyi family, dispossessed of all their property, were forced into emigration and settled in France.
Having largely escaped war damage, the castle was occupied for a few months by the Hungarian People's Army. In the early 1990s, the family reconnected with Hungary and, through the Joseph Károlyi Foundation, undertook the restoration of the castle and its opening to the public. Fehérvárcsurgó Castle, Károlyi Kastély, currently offers 21 rooms and several suites.
Most rooms are equipped with air conditioning and PC connections and are brand new, all with en-suite bathrooms.
A room with a four-poster bed is offered to newlyweds for wedding receptions.
Meal menus are tailored to guests' preferences. A large library, meeting rooms, a chapel, and a restaurant (serving Hungarian and international cuisine) with a terrace are available for stays, seminars, events, or receptions.
Located on the Balaton road from Budapest, it is also a short distance from Pannonhalma Abbey, Komárom (Sandberg Fortress), various castles open to the public, and the famous Herend factories. For nature lovers, the park offers 10 km of trails for Nordic walking or cross-country skiing in snowy weather. It's also a hunting ground. Fishing is available in the nearby ponds, and horseback riding can be enjoyed in the park or on trails. The château also hosts cultural programs (concerts, exhibitions, a String Quartet Festival in September, and Plant Days in June).
