Troussay Castle, a must-see site in Chaverny: What to see and do in Troussay:

The smallest of the Loire Valley châteaux, it embodies a true haven of peace and tranquility. It exudes an atmosphere of calm, serenity, and well-being, where one can fully appreciate its artistic setting. As a quote from Themistocles inscribed on a château door indicates: "Small is the house, but oh how happy it is when filled with friends." This unique place is the fruit of a passion for art and history, cultivated by its owners, Stanislas, Etienne, Isaure, and Alix de Sainte Marie.

Built in 1450 , the château was meticulously restored by the historian and archaeologist Louis de la Saussaye, a friend of Prosper Mérimée and a pioneer in heritage conservation. Through his efforts, he skillfully integrated exceptional decorative elements from prestigious monuments in the Loire Valley that had fallen into disrepair, creating a veritable "artistic extravaganza" within this treasure trove of heritage.

The furniture, dating from the 14th, 16th and 17th centuries , elegantly complements the overall architecture of the castle.

The English-style park , a veritable haven of greenery, is an invitation to serenity, with its ancient trees and a great diversity of species. A two-hundred-year-old boxwood hedge surrounds the former French-style kitchen garden, whose greenhouse has been carefully preserved.

The picturesque outbuildings of the castle also house a small museum dedicated to the world of the legendary poacher, Raboliot , from the literary work *La Closerie de Raboliot *. A visit that transports visitors into the history and traditions of the region.

Cheverny

Between Sologne and the Loire Valley, a richly decorated Renaissance manor house.
In an exceptional green setting, the Château du Troussay, built in the 15th century, was restored in the 19th century by the Blois architect Jules de la Morandière.
The residence was then enriched with decorations of great interest from the Château de Bury, the Château d'Onzain, and old townhouses in Blois.
To the east of the château, surrounded by a thick, 150-year-old boxwood hedge, a kitchen garden laid out in squares is filled with fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers.
The vast park invites you to admire its variety of remarkable trees, such as the cedars of Lebanon, blue cedars, Virginia cedars, and a magnificent, very old holm oak.
