Located in the heart of nature on the banks of the Nied River in Moselle, its composite architecture is unique and its history rich. The first fortified castle was built in the 12th century under Lord Wirich de Valcourt, now an emblem and icon of the castle. Modified several times, it now forms a vast medieval complex, marked by different periods. The curtain walls, which partially support the south and north wings, remain from the first castle, as well as two arches and a groove from the portcullis of the former drawbridge. The castle in its original form, destroyed before 1536, was replaced by a new construction whose architecture closely resembles the current castle. It was during this period that the entire building was constructed and four stair towers were added to its interior corners.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"690\" data-end=\"1029\"> <strong data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"716\">Saint Sixtus Castle<\/strong> welcomes you for an immersive guided tour, where you can discover its history and architecture.
